From the supplier: Increasing challenges to the concept that salt
is harmful to the body has prompted food companies to offer new
products without less- or no-sodium claims. The number of new food
and beverages with sodium reduction claims has fallen 3.1% in 1998
from 5.9% in 1995. Experts attribute the trend to the industry's
efforts to bring flavor back to foods and decline in consumer
concerns over the sodium content of foods. Another trend is the
addition of healthful ingredients to foods instead of removing
unhealthy ingredients.
